We completely eliminated all ZOOM!® products from our clinic about 7 years ago, and we will never use KöR® or Opalescence® whitening systems on our patients.

ANSWER: Tooth Bleaching is a chemical process that removes the stains on the tooth surface (extrinsic stains) as well as deep inside the tooth (intrinsic stains). Tooth Whitening, on the other hand, only removes surface-level stains. The two terms are often used interchangeably in marketing to patients, however, they are technically not the same. On our website, we frequently intermix the terminology because patients often search for the term “tooth whitening” and may not realize that the procedure they are really looking for is “tooth bleaching”.

ANSWER: While there are currently no peer-reviewed clinical studies that demonstrate any ill-effects toward the health of the developing fetus or new-born baby, the American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines specify that elective tooth bleaching procedures should be avoiding while pregnant and/or breastfeeding. Our clinic will not bleach your teeth if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

ANSWER: Yes! Your orthodontist or general dentist may have told you that the bleaching gel will not penetrate though the composite-resin Invisalign® buttons attached to your teeth, however, this is simply not true. The evidence is very clear on this topic: you WILL NOT have areas of darker tooth showing when your Invisalign® buttons are removed following your bleaching treatment. We are so confident in fact, that we have performed this protocol on several of our own children.

ANSWER: You will NEVER have to avoid dark foods, like coffee/tea, red wine, chocolate, or pasta sauce. It is truly unfortunate that so many patients have been told to avoid these delicious foods, or they have been told to drink though a straw because their teeth are somehow more susceptible to staining immediately following any sort of bleaching procedure. We know from years of clinical research that this widely held myth is not true.
